Color — A Tufts Supplement Stop Motion by Betty Quinn

by admin on Sep.02, 2010, under Video

**UPDATE PART 2** For those of you wondering, I am currently happily attending the University of Virginia. And if anyone ever wants to help or collaborate, message me, thanks :) **UPDATE** I have been accepted into Tufts!!! It’s going to be a tough decision deciding where to go next year, but I’m so honored! (Most likely UVA, but I’ve gotten *very* attached to Tufts through this whole process. Hmmmmm.) The following 698 images are neither meant to define me as a person, nor as a student, but instead give a hint of my creative personality. While the quirky images may seem random, they reveal some of my favorite hobbies. When not dodging giant rubber ducks, I enjoy dancing, creating stop motions, collecting Betty Boop memorabilia and sketching with Crayola crayons. Date of composition: Dec. 22, 2009 — Dec. 27, 2009 (I worked about 10 – 12 hours each day shooting and editing.) Music — “Sleepyhead” by Passion Pit (WOW! Over ten thousand views! I never expected this much of a following, although I must thank the Boston Globe, ABC News, CS Monitor, CNN and the New York Times for featuring it on their websites. Thank you so much to everyone who has commented and favorited, especially the current Tufts students :] Really, your encouraging feedback is one of the reasons why I loved this prompt.)

Hubblecast 20 Special: Technology to the rescue

by admin on Aug.31, 2010, under Video

In this new Hubblecast episode, Dr. J guides us through the third chapter of Eyes on the Skies, the International Astronomical Union’s official movie celebrating the telescope on its 400th anniversary in 2009. Progress in telescopic astronomy would have come to a grinding halt in the second half of the twentieth century if it weren’t for the digital revolution. Powerful computers have enabled a wealth of new technologies that have resulted in the construction of giant telescopes, perched on high mountaintops with monolithic or segmented mirrors as large as swimming pools. Astronomers have even devised clever ways of undoing the distorting effects of atmospheric turbulence and of combining individual telescope mirrors into virtual behemoths with unsurpassed eyesight. The optical wizardry of 21st century telescope building has ushered in a completely new era of ground-based astronomical discovery. Subscribe to Hubblecast!Credit: ESA/Hubble (M.
